Mawddach Trail
Distance : 8 miles Time : approx 3 hours Terrain : easy walking | |
| This route starts from the main car park in Dolgellau, from the NE corner, by the river. Join the trail here and enjoy a riverside walk with views across the playing fields to the town and to Cader Idris. Proceed along the river bank approx ½ mile, at the bridge,turn right, cross the river, then turn left, through the gate and continue along the Northern river bank. | After a further ½ mile, at the main road, cross and proceed into and through the small car park. The trail continues out of the car park along a short tarmac section. Cross the river again, through the gate and continue for 1 mile to reach Penmaenpool, a pretty spot with the old toll bridge, The George 3rd Hotel/Pub,and toilets. | The trail continues along the waterfront, past The George, past the houses, and through the gate. A beautiful 6 mile un-interrupted section leads towards Fairbourne. Simply follow the trail, enjoy the views, the trail ends at Morfa Mawddach Rail Station (toilets & parking). The walk can be extended to Barmouth by taking the path North over the (toll) bridge. |
