The walk to the summit and back, from either end takes about 2 hours each way. With a second vehicle (or taxi), why not make a traverse of the mountain.

At nearly 3,000ft, or 893m, the weather on the summit will be significantly cooler than at the car parks.

When heading out onto the mountain take an OS map and know how to read it, a compass is also useful, as is a basic first aid kit and a mobile phone.

Take this small mountain seriously and you'll have a great and safe day out.

The routes onto Cader Idris require proper footware, boots are a must along with extra clothing, food & drink.

After you walk the nearest refreshment is in hotels at each end of the trail, or in Dolgellau, or Tal-y-llyn.
